My Epiphany

Hi and welcome to my first blog post!
I went on a family trip to California back in December 2024. This was our second time going and we always enjoy ourselves whenever we are there. The food is amazing (we're vegan) and the views of the ocean were completely out of a dream.
This sign (the attached photo)really did stand out to me. "Never rush an artist". I discovered it while, waiting on eat dinner at a restaurant on Montrose. It was a sign that I needed to see. At the time I felt confused as a designer. I believe that at the time, I saw what other designers were doing with clothing that they upcycled and I tried to fit myself into that same mold. However, I realized on this trip that I was limiting myself.
I went to school for Fashion Design and did not get taught a lot of industry techniques. Honestly, a part of me does regret not going to a school in one of the fashion capitals. I let fear hold me back and I settled for going to local school. In regards to now, I realized that I needed to re-think about where I saw myself as a designer. What did I want my future to look like? What type of clothing did I want to create? How do I want people to remember me as a designer? Can I actually do this with my limited knowledge? Was the feeling that being a fashion designer was my calling, false?
I was also inspired by a designer's shop that I had never heard of in the vicinity of this sign. The designer created all of their garments from other garments. They were definitely a streetwear designer and their brand identity was very memorable. The ladies that we met there were super sweet and personable. The designer's shop fueled me with inspiration. I loved how they created the most cool things out of scraps of fabrics, too! The designer's creativity and the colors they used. Honestly, it was beautiful. It was art. This shop provided me with the answers that I needed.
I created a plan where I started with a mood board that represented who I was as a designer. I can design anything however, streetwear has always been my niche. I love thrifting and reworking clothing. Giving it new life and purpose. My mind immediately flashed back to a jean jacket I reworked. Which was inspired by one of my best friends and a character from a one of my favorite anime shows. The jacket is a combination of myself, art, and the right amount of edge. That jacket was the fire that re-ignited my passion for fashion.
(Additionally: Now the e-commerce store part, is definitely a learning curve. However, despite my lack of computer coding knowledge, I refuse to overwhelm myself with my website. I know that with time it will all come together, so can you all please give me some grace (laughs)?)
In conclusion, I cannot rush my work. That will only lead me to having creator's block and disappointment. What I will do is take everything one day at a time and be careful not to overwhelm and overwork myself. I don't want something that I love to become something that I hate because I no longer enjoy it. Another thing for me to remember is not to compare myself to others. Everyone's journey is different. I have to embrace my own and be patient.
Thanks for reading! Hopefully you all will enjoy what I create just as much as I do. Also please stay tuned for more Blog Posts.
